Wind Watch
Analysis from our data on the world's wind farms: where the pipeline is heading, deep dives into countries and states, the market, manufacturers and new technology. Each comes with its charts and the table behind it, free to reuse with credit, and every figure is checked against published sources.
US wind is having its best year since 2022. What happens after 2027 is the open question.
167 GW of wind made a tenth of US electricity last year. 7.2 GW has come online in 2026 so far, led by the 3.65 GW SunZia project; offshore, almost 1 GW is turning and 5 GW is being built, under federal pressure. A tax-credit deadline decides what follows.
Wind Watch · October 2026The world's wind pipeline is 2.3 times its fleet. Most of it is still on paper.
2,674 GW of wind is under construction, consented or planned worldwide, against 1,171 GW turning today. Only 310 GW is being built, more than two-thirds of it in China, and offshore the pipeline is almost twelve times the fleet.
