Getting the most from the Wind app.
Start with your first five minutes, then find the part of the app you're in. Two short videos show the basics. Every page in the app also has a short guide under in the top bar.
Your first five minutes
The Wind app is the part of Revolution Energy that's for subscribers: every wind farm we hold on one map, who owns them, live output, prices, the day's news and the documents behind it all. The website, news and country pages stay free for everyone.
- Create your account. Every new account starts with 24 hours of Pro, free, with no card. Nothing is charged unless you subscribe.
- Pin the countries you follow. The first time you open the dashboard it asks which countries you work in, whether you follow offshore, onshore or both, and which topics interest you. The whole app then focuses on them: news, documents, events, projects and live output. Follow the whole world? Pin none.
- Switch between your countries and the world. The switch at the top of every app page shows how many countries you've pinned. Pick Global to see everything, or one of your countries to focus on it.
- Find anything. The search box in the top bar (Ctrl K) finds farms, companies and documents. Press G and then a letter to jump to a section: the letters show on the menu after you press G.
- Save what matters. Star a farm to add it to your Portfolio, and follow companies from their page. What you pin, follow and save is kept with your account, so it's there wherever you sign in.
Dashboard
Your countries at a glance, every morning: each pinned country's share of power from wind, its capacity and pipeline, wind output now and its latest story, then what's changed in the data and the news on your countries.
- Interests reopens the setup, to change your countries, focus and topics.
- Customise lets you drag the cards into your own order, hide the ones you don't use and add them back later.
- Each country card links to its Profile and to its farms on the Map.
Map
Every wind farm we hold, with the list on the left and the map beside it. Click a farm, on the map or in the list, to open its panel: the facts, output, turbines, owners, weather and economics, each on a tab.
- Narrow the list with the search box, Offshore or Onshore, the status chips (operating, building, consented, planning) and Filters. Sort it with the menu beside the tabs, or jump to a country.
- Colour the farms by status, turbine maker, model, owner or year online in the panel on the right. The key ranks whatever is in view, and clicking an entry shows only those farms. Heat map shades the map by capacity, pipeline or turbines instead, and Through time plays the farms in by the year they came online.
- Turn layers on in the same panel: the wind blowing now, power prices, ports and factories worldwide, and by country lease areas, cable routes, power grids and zones. Pick a base map: Muted, Standard, Night, Ocean or Satellite.
- Select several farms by holding Ctrl and clicking, or draw round them with the lasso (L) or a box (B). The table at the bottom compares them and downloads as CSV or Excel.
- Measure distances, draw rings round a point, show a wind rose, or add your own data, from the tools in the panel.
The 3D view
The 3D button on the map stands every farm up as a column: the taller, the more megawatts, coloured the same way as the map.
- Drag to pan; right-drag, or hold Ctrl and drag, to tilt and turn.
- Globe and Terrain switch between a round earth and a flat map, and add the shape of the land.
- Point at a column for the farm's owner, turbines and size; click it for everything. 2D map takes you back where you were.
A farm in detail
Each farm's panel, or its own page, puts everything we hold about it on tabs: the overview and key facts, production, turbines, ownership and consent, weather and economics. Each figure names its source.
- The star saves the farm to your Portfolio.
- Offshore farms list their nearest ports and have a Weather tab, where you set limits for wind and waves and see how often the sea stays within them.
- Production shows output where it's published: each half hour for Great Britain, monthly for the United States, and what the wind alone would have given.
Countries and Compare
Countries lists wind in every country: sort any column, or click a country for its own page with its output, capacity, farms, owners and history. Compare countries puts up to eight side by side, with charts for capacity, generation and the pipeline.
Operators and owners
Who owns and runs the world's wind farms. Search for a company, or click one for its farms by country, operating and in the pipeline, what it owns by share, and the news that names it.
- Follow a company to see it on your dashboard.
- Their farms on the map shows the company's farms and nothing else.
Turbines, manufacturers and ports
Turbines lists the models we hold, with their specifications and the farms using them. Manufacturers shows who builds the turbines and their market share, only where the maker is known and saying how much that covers, with the factories the makers name on their own sites. Ports ranks harbours by how many offshore farms have them among their five nearest.
Pipeline, repowering and deals
Pipeline shows wind due online by year and stage, as the projects have stated it: many dates will move. Repowering screens older farms where owners may fit fewer, bigger turbines; it's a screen, not anyone's stated plan. Deals collects acquisitions, financing, contracts and turbine orders from our daily briefings, each linked to its report.
Prices
Day-ahead power prices by bidding zone, and what wind actually earned against them. Pick a zone and a period: today, tomorrow, the last 7, 30 or 90 days, this month, the year so far or 12 months.
- The capture rate is what wind earned, weighted by its output, as a share of the average price. Below 100% means wind tends to run when prices are low. What's a capture price? on the page explains it in full.
- Negative-price hours count the hours when wind and solar outran demand and export capacity.
- The tabs show daily patterns, price against wind, and a comparison of zones.
Curtailment and grid queue
Curtailment shows wind turned down by the grid operator, and what was paid for it, for the grids that publish it: the page says which. Grid queue lists wind waiting to connect to the grid in Great Britain, from NESO's register.
Live
Wind output and carbon now, for the grids that publish it: your countries first, which country is running hardest, the last two days of offshore, onshore and solar, and every grid we cover in one table, each with its time and source. It refreshes every five minutes.
Briefing and events
The Briefing is the day's wind news, summarised and tagged by country, with a link to every original story. Events lists conferences and other dates, which you can search or add to your calendar.
Analytics
The big questions about wind, answered from the data, with a written reading under each chart.
- Looking at sets the place for every chart and answer: the world, a region such as Europe or the North Sea, or one country.
- Overview starts with the questions developers, investors and lenders, the supply chain and policymakers ask most. The sections on the left go deeper: production, capacity and pipeline, ownership, technology, supply chain, policy and auctions, and markets.
- Chart builder changes any chart; pin it to keep it in My charts, and download the numbers as CSV.
- Document data holds tables drawn out of reports, ready to chart.
Library
Policy, consents, research and data from governments, regulators, grid operators and researchers. Search titles, summaries and publishers, or filter by country, category, energy and date; Key documents picks out the essentials. Each entry links to the original, and the bookmark saves it to your reading list. Summaries are written by AI from the publisher's page, so check the original before you rely on one.
Print, download, language and theme
- Print, in the top bar, prints the page's content without the menus.
- Tables and charts download as CSV or Excel. Credit the sources named on them, as each source's licence asks: see Data sources.
- ES switches the site and the app to Spanish, and back. On the legal pages the English version is the one that applies.
- The moon switches the app between its light and dark themes.
Where the numbers come from
Every figure names its source, and sources differ by country: national registers where they exist, then grid operators, governments, researchers and the companies themselves. Indicative marks figures that are estimates or that the sources don't cover in full; each one says what it covers.
- Coverage shows what we hold for each country and when each source was last refreshed.
- Methods explains how we work out the figures that are ours, and how we checked them.
- Data sources lists every source with its licence and refresh schedule.

Common questions
A farm is missing, or something about it is wrong.
Sources differ by country, and some list only bigger farms or stop at a date: Coverage shows what we hold for each country. If something is wrong, tell us from the contact details and we'll check it against the source.
How up to date is the data?
Live output refreshes every five minutes, prices and the briefing every day, and registers when their publishers update them. Each page says when its data was last updated, and Coverage lists every source's latest refresh.
Why is there no live output for my country?
Live shows the grids that publish wind output as it happens. Where a grid doesn't, the country's figures come from yearly and monthly sources instead.
Can I use the numbers in my own work?
Yes, for your own analysis: tables download as CSV or Excel. Credit the source named on each figure, as its licence asks, and see our terms for anything you publish.
